Away from the Palm Trees: Florida Weddings without the Sand
Florida Weddings

Deciding to have a destination wedding is a good idea for a number of reasons. First and foremost, it’s one of the most romantic ways to honor your big day. A quiet getaway for just the couple, or the couple with a few friends and family can be a great tribute to the life you are about to embark upon together. Couples usually choose tropical locations for their destination weddings based on the fact that hot climates are usually a top destination of choice for any vacation. And among those tropical destinations, Florida always ranks in the top spot for a couple’s destination wedding. But for a destination wedding, there’s much to Florida than just beaches and palm trees.

The first place to look is at hotels. There are many beautiful hotels in the Florida area and they often have many services available to make your wedding day that much easier on you. They all have different facilities that are able to accommodate weddings of any size, from an intimate gathering of two to a whole party of two hundred people. These hotels will also often have a wedding coordinator that will provide useful advice and information on local vendors, how to plan the ceremony, and how to set up a reception, should there be one. If you are considering a Florida hotel for your wedding, first ask the hotel where you will be staying for the duration of your trip. Not only will this make it easier for you but the hotel may also be able to offer discounts with the wedding packages if they know you will be staying there for a night or two.

Much like hotels, Florida resorts will also have many different options available if you are looking to get out of the sun for your Florida wedding. The only difference between deciding on a hotel and deciding on a resort is that a resort is going to have more options for you. With bigger grounds, more facilities, and more people on-hand to help with your wedding, this may be an ideal choice if you’re planning on having a larger ceremony or reception. Both a resort and a hotel should be able to provide you with a list of vendors and will often provide the names of the best caterers in town. In fact, many of these facilities will not let you bring in a caterer of your choice. The catering company that they work with exclusively will make your entire meal, no matter the size of your party. Rest assured however that these caterers are usually of the finest quality and highest standing.

And there’s no reason why you shouldn’t have a denominational ceremony just because you’re having a destination wedding, if that’s what you choose. Florida has some of the finest churches, in just about any denomination and getting married in one of them will allow you to keep with tradition while you bring in some modern flare to your special day. Be aware however, that the church will probably only provide a venue for the ceremony. Any flowers, favors, reception plans, or anything else you may need for your big day will be entirely your responsibility to book, coordinate, and pay.

There are many options available in Florida if you’re looking to get away from the beach and palm trees for your wedding. It just takes a little bit of research and some imagination to find the wedding venue that will suit your needs perfectly.
